Assessments
Introduction
Data collection and on going assessments are pivotal in student and teacher success. Through a variety of assessments teachers are able to create meaningful lesson plans to target students' needs and areas of growth. In my classroom, I am using multiple methods of assessments; such as, formative assessments, summative assessments, and observations to guide my data-driven instruction. I use the assessment data to create small groups for guided reading. In these groups I can target specific phonics skills and reteach lesson plans to ensure each student is given multiple opportunities to meet their goals. I am able to use the data to guide my instructional decision making. Not only are assessments guiding for teachers, students benefit from monitoring their own progress toward meeting their goals throughout the year. . I clearly communicate the purpose of the assessments to students so they understand why we are taking a test or why I am pulling them to test their letter names and sounds. It is important for students to understand the deeper why because they become invested in their own education. Students will be able to communicate the importance of meeting their goals. Understanding what we work on in class will help them achieve their goals.

Conclusion
By using multiple methods of assessment, I am able to collect a variety of data. I can use this data to ensure each students needs are being met and are given ample opportunity to achieve mastery. As I collect data, I track it on class wide bulletin boards and individual student trackers so students are able to monitor their own progress. In addition to monitoring their own progress, students can communicate their goals and next steps to achieving those goals. Through data collection, I am able to make crucial decisions on my upcoming lessons and instructional strategies.
