Dramatic Academic Growth
Academic gains are the ultimate door opener - they are the foundation of a truly transformational teacher. Students make dramatic levels of academic growth (that is measurable and rigorous). Families know the level of rigor necessary for college and career readiness in the 21st century.
Introduction
A transformational teacher ensures each student is making dramatic academic gains and are internalizing content to use in multiple ways. To measure my students' academic growth throughout the year I use data collected from the Northwest Evaluation Associated (NWEA) Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment. NWEA measures students mastery on foundational skills, language and writing, literature and informational, and vocabulary use and functions. This quantitative data allows me to adjust my instruction and create plans that are targeted to student needs depending on their overall areas of growth. This assessment also informs me how my students are performing compared to other students in the nation. I am also able to collect data in a qualitative manner through students writing. Students write daily and I have been able to see improvement in writing throughout the year with grammar, spelling, and other writing conventions. Students have grown from using inventive spelling to using phonics patterns and rules learned through phonics lessons.

Conclusion
In conclusion, I have seen dramatic academic growth in all my students throughout my teaching career. All students are capable of dramatic academic growth and know they must meet all their goals set in order to open doors for them later in life. Through parent communication and meetings, families are aware of the rigorous goals set for their student and why achieving these goals will set them up for successful futures. I use a range of assessments to measure dramatic academic growth in my students and reflect on these assessments in data analysis meetings to ensure I am closing the achievement gap for each of my students.
