Planning For Instruction
Introduction
The way in which teachers plan directly impacts student's success. I own my planning and ensure my individual planning supports every student in meeting the rigorous learning goals. As I plan, I think through prior knowledge my students have on the content and knowledge that needs to be learned by each student. This varies by student so it is important I think through strategies that support every student. As I plan, I think about the community I serve and the varying cultures of my students. I do my best to incorporate many aspects of culturally responsive teaching. I engage students in lessons through meaningful hooks directed to their interests. My instructional planning begins with a Vision of Excellence (in other terms, unit plan). I meet with my coach and peer teacher to discuss daily lesson plans and instructional strategies. I use the unit plan to create daily lesson plans based on the day's objective. In this portfolio, I will highlight the unit plan and lesson process of reading comprehension.

Conclusion
Through backwards planning, I am a able to create daily rigorous lesson plans that meet the needs of every student. Throughout the unit plan process I think through what my students already know and what instructional strategies are going to best meet their needs. I note these thoughts in my unit plan and diligently incorporate them into my daily lessons. Daily lessons are planned carefully so students are able to meet the rigorous learning goals through drawing upon knowledge of other content areas and applying their new knowledge in other subjects.
